Genki ("the app", https://getgenki.app, formerly Planner Z) is a small personal project run by Niklas Steinfurth. It calculates training plans for invited users and puts the workouts into their Google Calendar, optionally based on their Strava activities, with an AI coach to talk the plan through. Access is limited to people the operator has invited.
What data the app accesses
- Your Google account email address: to check that you are on the invite list and to show who is signed in.
- Your list of Google calendars (read-only): so appointments in your other calendars, including shared and subscribed ones, count as busy when the app looks for free time.
- Events in your Google calendars: read to find free time and existing workouts. The app creates a separate "Genki" calendar for your workouts (or uses your primary calendar if you don't grant that permission), and edits or deletes only events it created itself. A new week plan is written only after you approve it; other changes (moving, shortening, swapping or adding a session) happen when you ask for them, with a tap or in the chat.
- A photo of you (only if you use "Make it me" on your avatar): the photo is shrunk in your browser and sent once to Anthropic (Claude API), which picks your hair style and colour, skin tone, facial hair and glasses from a fixed list. Only those picks are stored; the photo itself is not stored. "reset" removes them.
- Your Strava activities (only if you connect Strava): activity type, date, duration, distance, elevation, heart rate and power summaries of the last 12 months, and power/best-effort details of a few key sessions, plus your Strava weight and FTP. Used only to calculate your fitness, thresholds and training load.
- Your intervals.icu access (only if you connect intervals.icu to get your runs on your watch): an access token (when you connect with the intervals.icu button) or the API key you paste, used only to put your plan's upcoming runs (name, time, length, the workout steps and notes) on your intervals.icu calendar and keep them up to date. Nothing is read from intervals.icu except your athlete name.
- Your profile answers: goals, available time, injuries, equipment, motivation and optional body data (weight, birth year, heart rates) you enter during onboarding, and strength sets you log.
- Notifications (only if you turn them on): your device's push address, your time zone and wake-up time, and, so the morning call can read today's session from your calendar while you sleep, your Google sign-in token, stored encrypted.
- Your chat messages: the requests you type, such as "plan my training for next week".
How the data is used
Your data is used only to provide the coaching feature you ask for. Training numbers (fitness, thresholds, plans) are calculated by the app's own training engine. To answer a chat message, your message, your profile, the engine's results and relevant calendar events (titles, times, calendar names) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which explains the results and proposes calendar changes. Anthropic processes this data as a service provider under its commercial terms and does not use API data to train its models.
What is stored, and where
- Encrypted app storage. Your profile answers, logged strength sets, session ratings, drafted plans, what the coach remembers about you, your Strava connection token, your intervals.icu key or token, your notification settings (with your Google sign-in token) and a cache of your Strava activity summaries are stored encrypted (AES-256) in private Vercel Blob storage, keyed by a hash of your email. Calendar events are not stored.
- Sign-in cookie. After you sign in, your email address and a Google access token are stored in an encrypted, HTTP-only cookie in your own browser, so you stay signed in. Logging out deletes the cookie.
- Chat history is kept only in your browser's local storage; "New chat" deletes it.
- Hosting logs. The hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, such as IP address and timestamps, for a short period.
Sharing
Your data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone other than the service providers needed to run the app: Google (Calendar API), Strava (if you connect it), intervals.icu (if you connect it), Anthropic (Claude API) and Vercel (hosting and storage).
Google API Services User Data Policy
Genki's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- Google user data is used only to provide and improve the training-planning features you can see in the app.
- It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not transferred to anyone except as needed to provide those features (the service providers listed above), for security, or to comply with the law.
- Nobody reads your calendar data unless you ask for help with a problem and agree to it, it's needed for security or legal reasons, or it's aggregated and anonymised.
- Google user data is not used to develop, improve or train generalised or non-personalised AI or machine-learning models.
Revoking access
You can log out at any time using the "log out" link in the app. To fully revoke the app's access to your Google account, visit myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove "Genki". "Disconnect" next to Strava in the app revokes Strava access and deletes your synced activities. "Disconnect" on the watch card takes your upcoming runs off intervals.icu and deletes the key or token.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Me → Settings → Account → Delete account (or the account menu in the top right). This immediately deletes everything stored for you (profile, plans, ratings, what the coach remembers, logged strength sets and synced Strava activities), disconnects Strava and intervals.icu, removes your notification subscriptions and revokes the app's access to your Google account. Workouts already in your Google Calendar stay there, as that calendar belongs to you. The chat history on your device is cleared as well.
